With the founding of the Pitt County Female Institute in the mid 1800’s, Farmville took the lead in providing excellence in education. That tradition continues today.
As part of Pitt County School System, Farmville’s unique four-school campus, which provides shared resources and a quality educational environment for grades K-12, is at the forefront of the nationwide movement to create “neighborhood schools.” Farmville has had two principals of the year in three years, and in 2003-2004, Farmville Central had the highest EOC scores in the county at the high school level.
The excellent schools in Farmville enjoy the support and assistance of the Farmville Area Coming Together for Schools (FACTS) organization. FACTS is a broad-based initiative that supports and assists the schools, and calls for parents, business leaders, and citizens to be stakeholders in the educational process.
FACTS sponsors free on site SAT preparation courses at the high school, and currently is establishing a leadership academy at the elementary school. The recipient of many awards, FACTS has been recognized by the Governor for its innovative Reading Rescue Program.
