Town of Farmville Board of Commissioners
The Farmville Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building Courtroom with Mayor Robert L. Evans presiding. Present for the meeting were Commissioners Brenda Elks, David Shackleford, Hunter Walters, Jamin Dixon and John Moore; Town Attorney Christopher Edwards; Town Manager David Hodgkins and Town Clerk Amy B. Johnson.
Mayor Evans called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Reverend Ronnie Wilkes, of the Bibleway Holiness Church in Farmville, offered the invocation which was followed by the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
Mayor Evans recognized Lynn Smith.
Girl Scout Troop Leader 48- asking to use the community center for a fundraiser to send girls to camp
The requested the Town Manager to work with Ms. Smith due to Girls Scouts being a non-profit.
Mayor Evans read a proclamation for teacher appreciation week and mental health month.
Town Manager Hodgkins informed the Board of the following:
- Introduced Matt Johnston as the new Recreation Director
- Sideway project is finished
- School resource officer, chief and him met with last week with ……
- bobby ham pay for steaks to be cooked for psylso fire people who worked- cook at fire station
Mayor Evans requested approval for the evening’s agenda.

8-Audit Contract renewal
9-Interest in a farmers market
On motion by Commissioner Shackleford, the Board approved the agenda as presented. The motion carried unanimously.

2. Community Organization Funding Requests for FY 2016/2017 Budget
FCAC- Andrew Barrettt requesting $7,000
Farmville Senior Council- Julia Williams- lost support for the van this year
Rich- executive director- council on aging
3. Update on Former Farmville Hardware Property
Town Manager Hodgkins gave an update
Commissioner Elks made a motion…… The motion carried unanimously.
4. Amended Water Purchase Agreement Between Farmville, Greene County and the Greenville Utilities Commission
Commissioner Walters made a motion to accept the agreement- The motion carried 4 to 1, with Moore voting in the negative.
5. Schedule Public Hearing and Initial Budget Work Session For FY 2016/2017 Budget
Town Manager Hodgkins –
Budget workshop Wed may 18th 9am- public hearing June 6th
Commissioner Moore made a motion to schedule the budget workshop. The motion carried unanimously.
6. Reschedule July Regular Meeting
Town Manager Hodgkins
Commissioner Moore made a motion to have the meeting June 27th. The motion carried unanimously.
7. COPS Grant
Deadline to is June 1st
Commissioner Moore made a motion to pursue the cops grant. The motion carried unanimously.
8. Audit Contract Renewal
Town Manager Hodgkins requested renewal of the audit contract.
Commissioner Elks made a motion to renewal the contract. The motion carried unanimously.
9. Farmers Market
Commissioenr Dixon made a motion to instruct staff to look for a suitable place to have a farmers market on Saturdays.
Ceila Stone- like we are keeping the parking lot parcel
Consider something lower than $175,000 due to keeping the parking lot
Commissioner Shackleford made a motion to go into at 8:27 p.m.
On motion by Commissioner Walters, the meeting was adjourned at 8:09 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
